Lyrics

MAGIC STILL HAPPENS
(Lisa Carver/Steff Mahan/Cheley Tackett)

Sweet ol’ lady countin’ her pennies in the grocery line she was short a dime
Hers eyes fell, she apologized, and put the blueberries back
I was standin’ behind the college kid who was watchin’ her & I watched him dig
A five out of his pocket. He whispered “I got this.’

She smiled through tears said “Honey you didn’t have to do that”
But her voice cracked…

Just when I’ve lost my faith in humanity
Feels like the whole damned world’s rollin’ right downhill Some soul steps up pulls a miracle right in front of me
Remindin’ me that love is real and magic still happens

I left that store a little changed what didn’t seem like much meant everything
Still holding on to a spark of hope that stranger threw my way
When I came across the homeless guy with his faithful dog I usually walk on by
Stopped for a minute, gave him my sandwich and asked their names

Hungry as he was the second he got it unwrapped
That dog got first half

Just when I’ve lost my faith in humanity
Feels like the whole damned world’s rollin’ right downhill Some soul steps up pulls a miracle right in front of me
Remindin’ me that love is real and magic still happens

Saw the sign at the corner bookstore blew me away
Read times are hard and books can heal help yourself if you can’t pay
Did you hear about the girl who had her eyes on first place
Stayed behind to help her fallen rival finish the race
