    Homegrown

Grandaddy worked for the steel mill/That brought the boom into river town/Fed nine mouths with blue collar hands/Earned his keep by the sweat of his brow

Home was the foothills of Appalachia/Where country's more than music, it's the way of life/And same as the bluegrass growin' in the holler/And the moonshine

    Grandaddy he was homegrown/Proud, flag-wavin' patriot son/This heartland's backbone/Homegrown/Perseverin', God-fearin', America's own

Daddy joined up no one forced his hand/Shipped out to fight in Vietnam/Came back a Purpe Heart a forever changed man. But he still loves Uncle Sam

    My daddy he's homegrown/Proud, flag-wavin' patriot son/This heartland's backbone/Homegrown/Perseverin', God-fearin', America's own

Lord, let me live a simple life/I pray for fertile fields and open skies/And to lay my head down every night still free/Oh Lord keep me

    Homegrown/Proud, flag-wavin' patriot/This heartland's backbone/Homegrown/Perseverin', God-fearin', America's own

    Play the One I Like

Hey Mr. DJ it's me again Looks like it's gonna be another sleepless night You must be tired of the same old request But could you please play the one I like Where the guy gets the girl And they take on the world With nothing but their hopes and their dreams And by the second verse For better or worse She promises she'll never leave Just for a moment It'll make me feel alright So could you play the one I like No, I'm not crazy I know she ain't comin' back Even if I hear the song a million times But it tells the story of the life we had So could you please play the one I like REPEAT CHORUS (twice) Will you play the one I like - See more at: http://www.cheleytackett.com/here_cd/#sthash.9GLBHAoM.dpuf

    Jerusalem Ridge

Bluebirds sang from the bluegrass in the dewy Sunday morn We stood silent by the window Granny said they were blessed creatures from the Lord And good omen to our christian home And they sang from high atop Jerusalem Ridge With Kentucky's fair Rosine for their view Where the wind carries the song of a pearl mandolin To yonder's palest shade of wild blue Unto yonder's palest shade of wild blue Grandaddy gave the sermon for the twilight service Spoke of Jesus and John the Baptist Then called all souls to redemption and we lifted our voices As sunlight struggled through the stained glass And we sang from high atop Jerusalem Ridge With Kentucky's fair Rosine for their view Where the wind carries the song of an old gospel hymn To yonder's palest shade of wild blue Unto yonder's palest shade of wild blue We laid Grandaddy to rest 'neath the chinaberry tree Granny went to God near two years later With bluebirds painted on the pinebox to join the melody The angels sang as they took her Singin' How Great Thou Art, The Old Rugged Cross, Blue Moon of Kentucky keep on shinin', and Amazing Grace From high atop Jerusalem Ridge With Kentucky's fair Rosine for their view Where the wind carries the song of a pearl mandolin To yonder's palest shade of wild blue Unto yonder's palest shade of wild blue - See more at: http://www.cheleytackett.com/here_cd/#sthash.9GLBHAoM.dpuf

    Good For Me

Never would've struck this match/never would've started back/this cigarette'd be my last/if I knew what was good for me Never would've bought this drink/never would've gone beyond the brink/I'd a told 'em to pour the damned thing down the sink/if I knew what was good for me But I learn things the hard way/time and time again Never would've said hello/never would've danced so slow/I'd have settled my tab and headed home/if I knew what was good for me But I learn things the hard way/time and time and time and time again No, I never would've said that first hello, never would have gave my heart and soul, and Lord knows I'd learn to let you go, if I knew what was good for me - See more at: http://www.cheleytackett.com/here_cd/#sthash.9GLBHAoM.dpuf

    Up Here

I know who shot Kennedy Stonehenge ain't no mystery to me and the Mona Lisa herself told me why she smiled--you won't believe all the things that I see As I walk on the stars, sleep in the clouds, I hear you at night when you cry out loud, here there's no pain and there ain't no fear, and I can see my house from up here I saw our Amy's class play, hard to believe she's already eight, and you wished I could be there but how would you know that I was 'Cause I left this world so suddenly, with so many people depending on me, and I only wish that there'd been more time for goodbye--I couldn't speak but I tried Now I walk on the stars, sleep in the clouds, and I hear you at night when you cry out loud, here there's no pain and there ain't no fear, and I can see my house from up here If a streetlamp burns out as you pass underneath or you swear someone's there so you turn round to see or the radio's on and they keep playin' our song and you fall back through time's open door, that's me trying to touch you once more Now I walk on the stars, sleep in the clouds, move on with your life, go make me proud, here I'm away but I'm always near, 'cause I can see my house from up here - See more at: http://www.cheleytackett.com/here_cd/#sthash.9GLBHAoM.dpuf

    Where Is There

He was thumbin outside of Biloxi, a life stalled at a crossroads lookin' for a sign An old powder blue caddy pulled over squealed to the shoulder to offer him a ride Her silver hair just reached above the dashboard, she stuck out her hand and said "Howdy do! Now I'm gonna put the Lord's Good Book between us and if you don't hurt me, I won't hurt you And I don't care where you've been it's about where you're goin' where you're goin' and knowin' how to get there, there's a way and a plan and a place you belong, it's been there all along, we need to find, where is there Some folks say I'm like Mother Theresea but I'm borna again Baptist and I sure ain't no saint, I've had my own share of detours got twisted turned of course, and it took a helping hand to set me straight So I don't care where you've been it's about where you're goin', where you're goin' and knowin how to get there, there's a way and a plan and a place you belong, it's been there all along, we need to find where is there You and me we don't know where we're destined, you're a young soul tryin' to find your way on earth, I'm just an old lady tryin' to reach heav'n So I don't care where you've been it's about where you're goin', where you're goin' and knowin' how to get there, there's a way and a plan and a place you belong, it's been there all along we need to find where is there" - See more at: http://www.cheleytackett.com/here_cd/#sthash.9GLBHAoM.dpuf
